Failure to lose weight is the most common reason. After Lap Band complications a patient can choose to just remove the Band. Most patients rather than just having their band removed and regaining their weight, choose to have the Conversion to a Gastric Sleeve or a Gastric Bypass during the same surgical time.
Q: Does Insurance cover Conversion of Failed Lap Band?
A: Insurances cover revision of a previous bariatric surgical procedure or conversion to other medically necessary procedures due to inadequate weight loss usually when ALL of the following are met: Coverage for bariatric surgery is available under the individuals current health benefit plan, there is evidence of full compliance with the previously prescribed postoperative dietary and exercise program, documentation of complication due to the failure of the original bariatric surgical procedure (documentation varies according to insurance and complication), and the requested procedure is a regularly covered bariatric surgery
